Africa: Tanzanian envoy attends the 48th meeting of the African Union on continental development, peace and security

ADDIS ABABA – Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabet Kubo, joined other ministers from African countries at the ongoing 48th African Union Executive Count and Count in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The meeting brings together African Union foreign ministers and senior officials to discuss development, peace, security, regional cooperation and the implementation of the decisions of the Heads of State Summit before the thirty-ninth summit of the African Union.
At the opening of the meeting, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Yusuf Ali, stressed the ongoing institutional reforms under the 2024-2028 plan, progress in peace and security structures, sustainable financing and institutional strengthening.
The President also thanked Angola for its outgoing leadership of the African Union.
For his part, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gideon Timotheus warned that the global geopolitical shift weakens multilateral cooperation.
Furthermore, Clever Gatete, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, called for stronger development financing, infrastructure integration, value addition of minerals and crops, expansion of Africa’s free trade market, and greater use of technology for growth.
