Mogadishu – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday congratulated the Somali people and state institutions after the country obtained a seat in the African Union Peace and Security Council for the period 2026-2028.
The President described this development as a historic achievement and a sign of Somalia’s growing diplomatic progress and the renewal of its leadership role at the continental and international levels.
He said that the victory was the result of a unified national effort, especially highlighting the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Hassan Sheikh said, “The trust and support that Somalia receives from the member states of the African Union is clear evidence of the positive transformation underway in our country and the strengthening of the partnerships that we are building.” “We previously served on the United Nations Security Council, and today we take our seat on the African Peace and Security Council.”
He expressed his special thanks to all the countries that supported and voted for Somalia, saying that the result reflects solidarity, friendship and a shared vision for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Africa.
