Zeldin tells me he’s trying to end the “Obama switch” that makes cars turn off at stoplights


Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin said Thursday that The Trump administration is seeking to convince auto manufacturers To turn off the feature that turns off vehicles in stop mode at stop signs.

“We are ending the federal government’s effort to force manufacturers to install the Obama switch, the almost universally hated start/stop feature,” Zeldin said while announcing the reversal of the finding that greenhouse gases could be regulated so that they harm public health.

Experts have debated whether an on-off switch results in significant fuel savings.

Zeldin also said that “manufacturers will no longer bear the burden of measuring, aggregating or reporting the greenhouse gas emissions of vehicles and engines.”
