The Prime Minister of Barbados wins a third term after his landslide victory at the polls
San Juan, Puerto Rico — San Juan, Puerto Rico (AFP) – Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has secured a third consecutive term in office after her party captured all 30 parliamentary seats in this week’s general election, according to an announcement in state-owned media on Thursday.
Mottley faced a challenge from Ralph Thorne of the main opposition Democratic Labor Party during Wednesday’s election. CBC News Barbados noted that Mottley’s Barbados Labor Party was the only one to gain any seats in Parliament, the third time it had done so.
“We have not come just to take office. We have come to make Barbados better, to make your lives better,” Mottley said in his victory speech overnight.
She promised to make progress in sectors including health care, public safety and transportation.
“We do not turn a blind eye to the concerns of our constituents,” Mottley told a crowd.
