Africa: Addis Ababa bans the use of motorcycles as a precaution at the African Union summit

City officials have banned the use of motorcycles in Addis Ababa while the Ethiopian capital hosts the 39th African Union summit.
The ban, which officials refer to as a security measure, is effective as of today, February 11, 2026, and will remain in place even after the summit ends on Sunday, according to the Addis Ababa Transport Office.
The city administration also warned of road closures and restrictions on parking throughout the city.
