In turn, Aliyev said that Azerbaijan and Armenia are “learning to live in peace,” and thanked the US government “for this great contribution.”

Vance’s visit comes after Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement at the White House in August, with the two leaders signing agreements affirming their commitment to signing a peace treaty.

The text of the treaty was initiated by the foreign ministers, which indicates initial approval.

But leaders have not yet signed the treaty and parliaments have not yet ratified it.

Vance also announced that the United States would ship new boats to Azerbaijan in order to “protect the country’s territorial waters.”
